Objectives:
Students will:
- connect with group members using Padlet
- organize events and reactions according to chapter
- create vlog diaries for assigned character using VoiceThread
- microblog character status updates according to assigned character and chapters using Twitter
- utilize Twitter hashtags to express theme and character development
Lesson Description:
Using Padlet, students will:
- Create a group Padlet (link to embedded Padlet below) to brainstorm and organize group roles.
- Choose one character per group member: Scout, Jem, Atticus, Calpurnia, or Wildcard (Boo Radley, Tom Robinson, Heck Tate, Dill, or Miss Maudie). Student that chooses to be the wildcard character can assume a different character's perspective for each vlog diary.
- Organize their specific character diary entries for chapters 6, 10, 15, 19, 24, 30.
Using VoiceThread, students will:
- Create a group VoiceThread (link to embedded VoiceThread below)
- Record vlog diary entries using mic and character image or mic and webcam.
- Entries should be organized according to character and chapter.
- Each entry should include a brief summary of the chapter's main events and the chosen character's perspective or reaction. Also, if the character had any moments in which they considered another character's perspective (according to Atticus's "walk in someone else's shoes" philosophy), students should invest considerable time into explaining it from the chosen character's point of view.
- Each entry should end with a reflective question about one of the central themes: Why do people behave one way in the streets and another behind closed doors?
- Extra credit: Comment on another character's vlog diary entry from your chosen character's perspective (+2 for every comment).
- Share vlog diary entries to Google Classroom discussion board.

Using Twitter, students will:
- Create a group Twitter account. (Give your account a group name that has something to do with TKAM. Do not include any personal or real information about yourselves.)
- Share Twitter handle on Google Classroom discussion board.
- Follow all group Twitter feeds and @michellehughes72812.
- Tweet two status updates for each chapter.
- Maximum of 140 characters per tweet
- 12 tweets per character, 60 tweets per group
- Tweets can include major events, character changes, allusions to important quotations, character perspectives with links to VoiceThread entry, etc.
- Utilize hastags to express theme and character development (ex: #oneshotfinch #heroofmaycomb #fightagainstracism #teamtom #justfolks #knotholegoodies).
